Im 18, and I recently got myself a laptop. Since I have access to the internet a lot more, I decided to create a myspace for the specific purpose of talking to my girlfriend while shes away during the week at school. But, over time I added stuff to it and its become an average page with pics and whatnot. Now it turns out my mom and dad have been checking it multiple times a day without me knowing, since it was accidently not set on private.
Now theyre on my ass for having a few cuss words on my page. Apparently using a few 'bad words' is not okay for me at all and theyre threatening me to take these words off since 18 is the new 8 I guess. I would take them off, but Im tired of them trying to desperately control who I am ( theres a lot more to this whole thing, but wont go into that).
So, pit what would you do in my situation?
and before anyone calls me an immature bitch or soemthing, this is more of a matter of principle and id like them to see how rediculous it is for them to try and treat me like im 12 on so many things.

Ask them to specifically remove those words from your brains memory so that you can go back to the "innocent" (use air quotations) child that you were so they can wipe your ass after you **** bricks in a diaper.
Any spelling or grammatical errors written above are because of my inferior brain to yours. Good job, you won life.

Your parents are overeacting.

Capitalize all the swear words. That'll show them!

You're 18. Move.

That's it. As long as they're paying your bills, you gotta do whatever the hell their rules suggest/imply. If you wanna be treated like an adult, act like one.

Additionally - I just saw a band called Kuroma on tv. I threw up in my mouth a little. Thought you'd all like to know.

Activate your privacy settings so that they can no longer see your profile. That effectively cuts off the discussion without any hastle on your part.

Seems pretty obvious to me.

I forgot to add, that I was specifically told not to put it on private because "if you cant say those words without everybody seeing, then dont say them at all". But, I know that this part is so they can keep looking at it to desperately try and catch me doing something...as if id post it on there...

I concur with this but, get them from Romania and be sure they're Gipsys, they'll let you use knives and get tatoos.

I know how you feel. My dad is always trying to control who I am and what I do and I'm friggin 21. As for all of you saying oh move out blah blah blah, that would be easy if the economy wasn't ****, there were decent jobs out there because of that, and its a hell of a lot easier said than done.

Best thing to do is just ignore it and keep doing, honestly what can they do to you? Stick up for yourself, thats what its come down to for me.

Is everyone ignoring the economy and the fact that it is extremely hard to get and maintain a job now. It is in his best interest at this time to stay under the parental wing and mooch for as long as he can.

Edit: **** you sacred, you think your so cool because you wrote the same thingi did a second before i did. Seriously, consider what other people are potentially writing before you post. Im going to go cry now.

Meh, w/e. That's an excuse, it's not like they quit making jobs because the economy took a turn. They're out there, you just have to put some effort in. It's only as difficult as you make it.

Well it's pretty damn dificult to get one that will pay ENOUGH to move out and rent a apartment and such. Trust me I know how to put effort into getting a job seeing for the past 2 months I've sent out a hell of a lot of resumes ... only to get responses upper management has shut down that specific job due to budget cuts.

So yes .. it is hard, and not an excuse for someone who probably has to pay rent, has college debts occuring, and so on.
#30
I do have a job, and Im in college and barely able to pay for anything by myself so no, Im not about to try and move out because its impossible.
Anyway, I think this kind of thing isnt warranted by them paying for my bills and living in their house. Wouldnt you guys rather be shown a little more respect than just resort to "just move out" over something like having "bad words" on your myspace?
#31
Don't blame the economy either. I don't think people are beating down doors to clean toilets or flip burgers. THere's always work, man - they're just not the jobs everyone wants, and if you wanted to get a job bad enough, chances are you'd be able to get one.

Should have taken a loan or waited until you could do it without burying yourself in money issues - living beyond your means is just that. And as far as being respectful - take your own advice - they're paying for the place you live in- you gotta do what they say as long as that's the case.

This is why Facebook > Myspace.

Also, your parents need to lighten up. I swear in front of my parents all the time, they only get annoyed if my younger brothers are around, which is understandable.

Like I said, I've been on my own since I was 16 (28 now) and I've been employed since I was 14 continuously through all kinds of economic situations. I pay rent, bills, a car payment and college loans. It really doesn't take much if you do your homework and actually put an effort twards it, rather then moaning about the economy. Lots of people do it every day, it can't be that hard.

I know what you mean dude. Honestly I feel like if instead of trying to control me, treat me like I'm 12, try to say I'm coming home too late, and so on, my dad just realized I was 21 and treated me like an actual adult we would have a lot better of a relationship.

You just need to talk to them about this.

Well I guess its different because you're talking about a job, and I'm talking about trying to get into a career myself actually. So maybe there's a difference in that aspect at the moment.

That's because you grew up with adversity in the real world. I did the same thing - but most people have no clue what struggle actually entails and how things really work, so when they get slight resistence, it seems like the end of the world.
