I know you can't play bass on a guitar amp, but can you play guitar on a bass amp?

Yeah, as long as you turn the bass down, otherwise it sounds terrible.

Doesn't work the other way though.

That's funny, I usually have the bass upped about one or two notches when I jam my guitar through it and it sounds great. I also have the mids cranked and the treble and pres upped a bit usually.

Depends on the amp, depends on the guitar, depends on the cab, depends on the player.
