My mate is starting out on Bass.

Hell probably play heavy rock and metal kinda stuff, like Scars on Broadway, Deftones, SOAD etc.

What good bass amp and bass guitar can you recommend for a starter?

Price limit is £100-£200

Read the Faq, for a bass, and if hes jamming with you, is your amp a vlave amp, he will need 60-150 watts of bass amp to compete comfortably.

i would recommend he started on guitar and then switched to bass,
it's a big step down, therefore making it easier on the player to switch

Anyway...seeing as your mate has only £100-200, he might as well buy a starter pack.

all I can say is never ever EVER get a starter pack. as with guitars as well, the companies will cut corners in quality and such, and it will suck after 6 months.

There is one that is worth it. Sort of. There's a bass pack ironically called "fender squier bass pack". I'm no bassist, but it has a squier p bass, which is in your FAQ, and a Fender rumble 15, with accessories for £200. I'd say if your on a budget, get that. But other than that, packs are ****.

If 100-200 is your budget. I would say go with a starter pack too.
It will be hard to build a "set" when your just starting.

But playing with guitars and metal, the 15watt from a starter pack will not be enough.

well you could get an good bass first squier VM jazz or a peavey millenium, Ibanez Sr300. play without amp for a few months, when he has more money, get an amp...........
but starter pack seems like the best choice with little money..
