the volume on my laney gc80 was fluxuating and being annoying, so i went to go change the volume pot, but i realized its a 4.7k, which is a random value...and the only 4.7k pots you can find are Linear taper, and i wanted an audio taper, so i ordered a 5k instead, because an electricician told me i could use a higher valued pot, just not lower. i just soldered in the 5k and, it didnt work....i get volume, but it is not changed wehen you raise the volume, and it sounds like complete ****, i also have a 4.7k linear coming to me? should i try it...or is this amp just a total waste of my solder? lol if anyone can help me itd be awesome

what gave you the impression it was a 4.7k? is it a tube amp?

If it is, try replacing that w/ a 1Meg log/audio taper...
