Ok im trying to write a Metalcore/Deathcoreish song but I want to know what notes I should use and chords, I've got an intro, verse, breakdown, chorus, and then im still working on the rest. Please help Pit, help me write a br00t4l song

Also, break down the song with open C triplet chugging. Put china over that, with some hardcore vocals.

You'll sound just like Killswitch Engage.

Pretty much what these guys said plus occasional pinch harmonics, pull off licks on the 4th string, and minor 3rd harmonies (assuming you have 2 guitars).

If you want to be really cool, you hire a bunch of vikings to tune your guitar down to B
and headbang in unison on stage, and talk about viking related topics
but yea, metalcore is basically lots of power cords
unless you want to go the route of Darkest Hour and have the coolest solo ever, like the one in Deliver Us
(\/)

You tune to drop C and play a lot of open C power chords, followed by a C# power chord or 2.

dude, check out august burns red, its more than that ^^
also dont make fun of TS, just cause other bands do the same doesn't mean the TS cant change how its done. a good example is actually august burns red who added more shred to the typical metalcore band scene.

And be sure to have really whiny singing during the chorus as well.

Tune to drop c. You need to hit the open C string and then play a note on the G string, which is usually 5,7, or 8. Throw some galloping in, and some hammer ons and pull offs. Some pinch harmonics might also work. During the chorus, play some power chords and use clean vocals. Do not try to tweak with any of these guidelines, or you run the risk of not sounding generic, an important characteristic of metalcore.

Intro/Verse riff example:
-----------------------------------------
------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------------
----------------------------0-5--8-7---
----5h8p7------888-5---0-5-8-7----
--0--------00-0-----------0-5-8-7-----

Chorus riff example:
--------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------
---------------------------------------------
-0-0-0-0-5-5-8-8-8---------------------
-0-0-0-0-5-5-8-8-8--------5----8----7-
-0-0-0-0-5-5-8-8-8-00-0----0----0----

This is only half a joke. There are some metalcore bands that I enjoy, but a lot are like this.

Chords? In metalcore? If you need chords, you're doing something wrong.

lmao....The trick is don't sit down and write it...get all roped up and jam with a good drummer tadaa

chuggity chuggity chug
and then some lyrics about either
A) Your buddy Jesus
B) Pot
C) Going through hardships
clench your balls tightly, sing a really whiny chorus over powerchords.
Chug some more
Add some pig squeals
and then discover your friends the G, B, and E strings for about 30 seconds and end the song.

Do I have scene girls throwing themselves at me yet?

Ever heard of octave chords?

Or let's play some deathmetal and growl about death trying to sound like dogs.

The thing is, you have to actually sit down with a drummer and maybe another guitarist and jam on it. Metalcore is supposed to be fun and heavy, not really complex. You can make it complex, but it doesn't really have to be.

Also, I usually listen to some hardcore (ie Black Flag, Speedealer, Circle Jerks) to get some cool riffing and just make it heavier.

How come I don't see anyone dissing the Bad Brains or Minor Threat or Suicidal Tendencies because they only use a couple of chords? Really it's annoying if you generalize a whole genre based on the last BFMV song you heard on the radio.
