Soyeah. Zavvi have finally gone. I am without a workplace D=

HMV is the only music retailer left on the high street.

Zavvi's decline is due to using the same distributer as Woolworths; EUK. When they went under, zavvi was effected too. So now they are gone.

Discuss....

Always preferred the local record shops myself. The people in there always seem to know what they are talking about.

I believe they sold off 16 shops to HMV to try and stay in business and it failed.

They werent a particularly good music store and their withdrawal of records angers me (but most HMVs dont stock 12" singles anymore aswell), but they had a decent movie section.

Still, no real loss, if it takes the smile away from this smug cunts face.

Broadmead; but I moved to the Cabot Circus store when it opened. I worked for the virgin mobile concessions inside so I'm technically not redundant, but it was sad to pack everything up and watch my poor little store get taken apart D=

EDIT: DanRev, richard doesn't own zavvi. He sold the company for £1.

He does own my virgin concession though >.>

Would be a bit strange if they did since the HMV and Zavvi on Princes Street were right next to each other. Like 30 seconds apart haha

HMV only bought stores in areas they didn't have a store already.

They bought a few more today, and Simon Douglas (zavvi CEO) bought back about 5, and every other store got shut down.

There's a bit in Mike Oldfield's autobiography where he talks about Branson taking him up in a hot air balloon, and Branson's there trying to go higher than his mate's balloon, whilst poor old Mike is close to having a panic attack.

Which furthers the Bond villain theory. Taking people up in balloons to torture them.

Ya, HMV bought out all the Fopp stores that were still making profit when the company went bust.

I don't lament the loss of Zavvi, HMV offered a better choice at a better price, although I do thank them for going bust and enabling me to own Watchmen for £6 as I had previously only read a library copy.

I miss Virgin.
It was cheaper and paid better than HMV.

Damn you Zavvi people coming along and ruining everything.

I know. A lot of the smaller labels will definately suffer.

And don't feel bad; Exeter zavvi was really small so they probably had loads of applications for each vacancy.

I think the Zavvi in MK is still open. It was on monday at least.

We still have HMV, which I prefer to be honest, except the "omg we're closing down" sales at Zavvi were immense.

I have dreams of turning that place into a pub, coffee bar, music and game store, and a guitar store in the 2 sealed off bits at the top that used to have books and the world music bits in them.

Now only if I had a ton of money...
