it's weird that spiders and MGs regularly top the list of worst SS amps here. either bandwagonry is way too prevalent, or UG has limited exposure to awful amps.

2 Worst SS Amps
- Crate SS amps

2 Best SS Amps
- Ampeg

You do know that Crate and Ampeg are owned by the same company, and that in the early 90's, had a lot of the same designs go into production?

Like the VH-140c and the GX-130c?

Anyway:

Bad SS amps:
Gorilla
Squier SP-10.

Good SS amps:
Randall RG200
Ampeg VH-140c

Bad tube amps:
Can't think of any that I couldn't make use out of

Good Tube amps:
Fender 6G6 Bassman.
Matamp GT2000

Oh, and to those listing the Champ 600 as a bad amp: You do know that it's intended use was as a Harp amp, right? And that the current models are actually vintage reissues, like the DRRI, etc?

Just making sure.

I actually sort of liked the champ 600, but out of the tube amps i've played, it ranked as one of the worst.
Not a bad amp though. I would imagine a speaker swap (or even running it with a small cab) would make it sound much better.

For guitar, yeah. But running that thing with harp? Man, there are few things that can beat it. Six inch speaker for harp FTW.

Well, based on my experience (There are a lot of amps I have played, and many more I have not).

Worst SS
Marshall MG (Not trying to jump on the bandwagon, but they really are bad)
Some Behringer amp I played once (then again, not a fan of most of their stuff)

Best SS
Peavey Transtube heads/Bandit (Probably my favorite solid-state amps period)
Roland Jazz Chorus (Some of the best cleans I've heard from any amp, tube or SS)

Worst tube
Can't really think of two tube amps I've played that were bad enough for me to put here, but I guess my least favorite tube amps I've played are a Valveking, or an Egnater head I tried (which wasn't even bad necessarily, just not for me)

Best tube
Soldano SLO 100 (Have only heard it live at shows, but damn, just amazing tone)
Pretty much most other boutique amps

Runners up for best tube IMO, would have to be Peaveys higher end stuff, and a JCM 800 2203
- Gibson Flying V 120 #1 (White)
- Gibson Flying V 120 #2 (Cherry)
- Gibson SG Standard ('61 style)
- Jackson DK2M

- ENGL Fireball 60
- Avatar 4x12

- Many pedals, plus other stuff
