Title says it all, I am doing a rebuild of a Ibanez RG that my friend gave me after he basically beat the hell of of it.

I tore all of the electronics out of it and I will be doing a complete rewire with new everything in the near future. I also plan on blocking out the trem cavity and using a hardtail bridge. As far as pups go i have no idea what im gonna do yet. I'm looking for a nice clean but I also want some crunch.

I started sanding the body today. (for a cheap guitar i actually like the grain)

Edit: if you have any suggestions or comments let me know I am new to this Thank you all.

Here are the pics

Before sanding:

After sanding:

I will keep this updated probally daily, if you wanna see some more pictures go Here

Joe Paf; the Joe Satriani paf!

Its Paf Joe And i vote Steves Special for the bridge and Air Norton or Paf Joe for the neck.

Looks neat... You should've kept that little thing inside the lower horn (Looks almost like a burn...), it looks like you sealed a pick inside the guitar

What kind of hardware do you plan on using? I think either black or gold would be dead sexy

(U calling my phone crappy??)

Updated (camera) pics: The body doesn't want to take any more color, Josh. I believe due to the sealer used on the wood from the factory. This last stain coat was straight minwax "dark walnut" and it made almost no difference. This may be as dark as it will get. Should be a good road-worn look once all the hardware is replaced. Tung oil time is around 6 pm if your happy with the color.

Photobucket pics don't wokr on my comp
Good luck with your build.

First oil coat went well. The first application fills the pores in the wood grain and gives it a very smooth finish with a slight gloss. Pics in-coming...

Just curious, why did you not sand the red out of the neck and pickup cavities?

because this being my first rebuild i did not want to mess up the neck pocket and once it is together your not gonna see the red anyway

and to guitarcam It is my guitar rebuild deluthe is doing the oil and helped stain it.

Turned down the neck mount ferules tonight because they were a bit large for the holes in the body. Ran a bolt through the center of each one and chucked it into the drill press. They're all filed down to size but the new neck bolts are too small. So it's either get bigger bolts or fill the neck holes and start fresh. I vote bigger bolts.
#40
Here they are installed. I used a micrometer to size them snugly into the mounting holes.
