Hey guys

I've got a problem with my Peavey 6505, basically.. it sounds like ass.

I actually cannot get it to sound anywhere near decent, and I'm even at the stage where my other guitarists Spider 3 sounds better... no joke
It's hard to describe what it sounds like... but it's pretty dull and... bad

I've got a Schecter Hellraiser C-7, with active 707's, going into the Peavey 6505, I'd usually have a ISP Decimator in the effects loop, but it' away getting repairs, then out through a Marshall 1960 4x12 cab...
Everything fitted with stock speakers/tubes etc.

Any idea's what the problem is?

Thanks

did you try it before you bought it??

i guess with a tube change and speaker change it would sound better......

I don't want the amp really sounds like eh? :P

Nah, I do know what it should sound like, I've even heard clips off other websites, and even in the highest quality on youtube, and they all still sound better

Check the tubes, even with a 1960 it should sound miles ahead of a spider.

Would I be better of just getting a new cab instead of getting new speakers then do you think?

If so, what speakers/cab?

EDIT:
How'd you mean check the tubes?
How do you check them/know if they're broken?

Hmm... I'm really looking for a 4x12 as I need it for gigs, so I'll probably try and get my hands on a Vader 4x12

Might be a bit of a bother getting the money though as I'm currently unemployed -.-

Thanks for the help none the less

What are your EQ settings?
Sometimes people setup these types of amps horribly...

'cause I want to overcompensate for my small penis

Also just because it suits a metal band better, and adds to the effect I guess.

As far as I'm aware there isn't a massive difference in sound between a 2x12 and a 4x12, except volume.

EDIT:

To JO-E-E

I can't remember the settings, and the heads not here with me atm

They were pretty generic though...
What settings would you recommend for me?

Well it's really all up to you for taste.... but I wouldn't put the PRE past 6 and I'd keep the POST relatively low...

7-8 is the absolute max when I played one.
I kept the POST anywhere from 2-3.5...
