Hey all,

I was just wondering, how would you go about getting a set of tuners for a strat style guitar with a four-on-the-top and two-on-the-bottom of the headstock type tuner arrangement?

Its for a new guitar I've ordered, I've had to get a lighter guitar 'cos of shoulder problems and I'm not sure if I can live without locking tuners! I've only really had experience with sperzels, but I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks in advance

Do you like sperzels? Why not just use them...

I'd love to, but I can't find a set for a headstock with a 4 x 2 tuning arrangement, thats the problem

Sperzels are reversible e.g. you can change a R/H into a L/H

Really??? How do you do that, it sounds cool? Are there any tutorials or anything anywhere?
Thinking about it... then why do sperzel sell 6 in line or 3x3 sets?

Yes you can do it - it says so on the Sperzel site. I've never actually needed to try it myself as all my Sperzel equipped guitars are 6 in a line.

Thats good news, but I had a look at the sperzel site and I couldn't find any info on how to do it, does anyone know any more about this? Googling it has been pretty fruitless so far.

Also, they dont absolutely positively have to be sperzels for me, its just what I'm used to.

Maybe any Musicman players could shed some light on how they get them?

Heres a tutorial I have just made for you

Right hand mode...

Unscrew knob...

Remove knob...

Remove shaft casing...

Push shaft...

Take shaft to hole on opposite side and re insert...

Re assemble shaft casing, knob and screw back together

Tuner in left hand mode...

Woooooooooooooooooooooooow, that is amazingly helpful of you! Thank you so much!
Although I do feel a little silly now because with the photos in front of me it doesn't look nearly as complicated as I thought it would be.

I'm guessing that I should probably buy a non-staggered set so that I don't get weirdness with the post heights?

Right, now I just gotta find me a set of those bad boys...

Wow. Thats pretty impressive. Personally I don't trust locking tuners. Just lock the string when you're winding it and you're good to go. Save yourself a potential disaster and 20 bucks.

Can you repost those pics? Just got a new music man and the tuners are shot and I would like to see how you do it. Thanks!

This is a very old thread. I'd be surprised if he still had the pics. It's quite simple. Unscrew the tuner button. It will become apparent in a hurry just how you reverse them. Don't lose the little washers under the buttons. 10 seconds per tuner.

Not sure why photobucket deleted them, but I re-uploaded them.
