Hey guys

I have a few questions about the Peavey 6505 head.

1st off, is it a sturdy reliable amp that I can count on?

2nd, What's the difference between the 6505 and the 6505+ sound wise?

3rd, is this the best heavy metal/hard rock amp for the money? Like for Bullet For My Valentine, Metallica, A7X

Okay. Here is a bit of info about what I play etc.

I'm lead guitarist in a metal band.

I only play metal/hard rock stuff with the band

This amp is going to be for playing with the band not for use at home etc.
Guitars:
Schecter Hellraiser C-1 Fr
Gibson Les Paul Studio with Seymour Duncans
Avalon Gold series acoustic
ESP LTD 7-string

Amp:
Marshall 100DFX
Peavey Valveking 212

Effects:
Boss GT-10

1. Yup most Peavey's are built incredibly well
2. 6505+ has a bit less can and better cleans, where has 6505 has more gain on tap.
There are more controls on a 6505+, too.
3. Uhm.. It comes down to opinion, I think they're great amps for metal but I think that their cleans aren't great although I've heard rather good cleans on them before.
It could do BFMV and A7X well if you EQ it properly, and probably Metallica.

1:yes
2: the 6505+ has better cleans than the 6505 because of an extra preamp but less gain (dont worry)
3:no..............what is your FULL budget for a tube amp??

I'm sure a Peavey XXX will find its way on that list haha.
Got a question about Baritone guitars? Feel free to PM me.

Thanks to UG, I converted from Metalcore to some "real" Metal.

I love my 6505+.

1. Yes-you could throw this thing down a flight of stairs and it'd only get louder.
2.6505+ does have better cleans(which still aren't that great) but just get a decent pedal to fix it if you're that worried about it. There is less gain on the plus but I'm in a metal band and I only turn the gain up to 5 at the most, it has more than you'll ever need.
3.I think this is a good amp for the money. It'll do what you need it to do, but obviously if you have a larger budget, you can get something better.

Yes, yes and YES. For metal there is no amp better for the money. Actually there are a lot of people that prefer these amps to boutique amps that cost 3x as much. Match it up with a good cab and you basically can't go wrong.
#12
Metal/hard rock yeah. The guy from bullet uses a 6505 head and a rectifier 4x12 cab with a ts9. Is that a good way to go?

If you buy a Peavey 6505 when you have the money for an Engl Powerball, you really do have problems.
#16
Peavey is the Rodney Dangerfield of Amps, they don't get any respect

great quality, made in the USA, amazing tone

also, i think the 6505 is better for onboard overdrive type tones, while the XXX gets better onboard distortion
my 4 cents

a vast majority of people i have ever discussed peaveys with (aside from peavey users) dont consider them high quality amps, Marshalls and Fenders get all the fame (even thought they have some really bad amps, MG and Frontman respectively) while Peavey puts out quality, versatile equipment and barely anyone notices.

edit:

just look at this guy

I'm sure the 6505 can do BFMV, since they use them, not sure about A7X and Metallica thought.

yes, but just because you can afford a Powerball doesn't make the Peavey any less amazing, and why, when you can probably get the same (or very similar) tone/OD/Distortion out of the peavey world you drop they extra cash for the boutique amp?
once again: Rodney Dangerfield of Amps

Syn uses a metal zone or Metalcore, i think, don't quote me on that, and James uses a marshall head while Kirk uses Randall

The 6505 is a very nice amp (Hell, I own one), But ENGL are just on another level when it comes to all the things you listed that makes Peavey so great.

A7X dudes use bogner uberschalls with compression / modded ds-1s as boosts. 6505 is br00t4l as ****, but the new 3120 has similar amounts of gain and br00t4lness with more versatility and at 999 for the head, its a steal.

Or you could go used and buy a JSX for about $800 used. Buy a nice cab and a digi bad monkey as a boost and you are looking at the uberbr00t4lz of the 6505 minus the fizzyness and with more clarity.
