I originally posted this in the recordings thread, but maybe I can get some help here instead...as, it sort of seems more suited anyways for here.

Hey all. Quick question. I was looking at this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alesis-GuitarLink-USB-Audio-Interface-Cable-703593-i1434723.gc

Does anyone have any ideas on if it's bad or good?

I was reading through some threads on here and FAQs, and read that the USB interfaces are the slowest, but those were made a few years ago.

I was looking for a soundcard I could use to connect my guitar into, or at least a converter to plug it into either the mic or line-in port of my onboard, but I've found nothing so far.

If you want my real opinion... its bad.

I'm sure it works fine, but direct recording for guitars is going to sound pretty crappy. Is there even a preamp in that thing?

If you're looking at recording guitars direct, with minimal equipment and price, I would save a little more and try this out: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Line-6-GuitarPort-XT-Guitar-Multi-Effects-Processing-150447-i1168568.gc

playing by yourself is like masturbating, sure it feels great, but it's nothing compared to the real deal.

I've heard a lot of good things about that. The only thing I don't understand with it is how does it do recording, but meh...I'll figure it out after/when/if I buy it. Thanks!
