I was wondering what makes playing modes different than playing from the scale that their based on.

For example, why say you were playing an F Lydian or D Dorian when they use the same notes as C Major?
The tonal center is different. If you are playing in the key of C major, your tonal center is C. If you are playing F lydian, the tonal center is F.
^exactly, if you wanted a tune based in F but wanted B natural you can just say F lydian

Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.
