So im looking at upgrading the pickups and wiring in my guitars and was wondering if anyone has done theirs with cloth wiring instead of the stock wiring?

It supposedly can improve the sound of the guitar.?

I bought some of this a while back as it was only 10 bucks so no big loss really.

um, yay?

i guess it would sound more "vintage-y" although i'm not sure how much of a difference there will be.

Yeh thats what im guessing.

Im just wondering if the difference can be achieved with that 'modern' vintage cloth style or if it really needs to be the real deal.

No change in sound. Just looks cooler and is easier to work with imo.

And what, should i clip the pickup wire shorter and join the cloth wire on or just unsolder them if thats even possible?

cloth doesnt make a difference to improve the sound. it's cloth, might as well be paper insulated, or even bare.

That's just a pain - just use it for all the other wiring that you need to do, and use the stock wire on the pickups to hook them up - it's not going to make a difference to your sound anyway.

you paid 10 bucks for 8 ft of wire? just because there is cloth on it?

i got 100 feet of regular old plastic covered 22awg wire for 5 bucks. not for nothing but i'd try to get my money back because there is no difference between cloth and regular wire. i swear every "deal" i see on ebay is just another person ripping off someone else.

edit:

or how about 143 feet of cloth covered for $35

try and get your money back dude.

the only difference in coth wraped wire and plastic wraped wire is that cloth wraped wire will catch on fire if you guitar happens to short, you got to be very unlucky for that to happen though. butif the wire is different guage than standard wire it could change sound.

lol, no.

just no. not gonna happen.

and a different gauge wire won't mean squat in how it sounds.
