Hey guys, I recently tried one of these and I really like it. Do you guys know exactly how the coil-tap works? Which pick-up(s) does it tap? If I change pick-ups will the tap mess with them? I'm really considering this thing I just need to know a little more.

it's been discontinued...
My gear:

Schecter C1 plus
Ibanez RX 240 (been sold)
Peavey envoy 110 (Pretty dang good!)
Some washburn acoustic...

Coil tapping splits the humbuckers to make them single coils. If you change the pickups, you gotta wire them like they were or you will lose coil tap.

I believe in the "personal opinion" school of thought, I doubt you've heard of it. Now, go waste your time on something that doesn't annoy me

Does it tap both pickups or only the selected?
Ah okay, I was hoping it wouldn't need a certain kind of pickup.

dwmacfar: Yes it is, but they still have one at my Guitar Center.

they're nice. some guys dont like jumbo frets and a finished neck tho.

schecter lists some models as having coil tap. actually they are coil Split.
it's different, but basically, when activated, the humbucker sounds more similar to a single coil.
not really, but it does offer you additional tones.
each humbucker would be able to be split on those models. (2 different push pull tone knobs) and would come with upgraded pups.

if you wanted to switch out and keep the push pull option, you would opt for 4 - wire pickups. most new models come with 4-wire options.

not all schecters come with coil split or Jazz / jb upgraded pups.
every year they changed prices and options.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.

I'm not to sure but, most pickups have some wires to hook up the coil tap, right?

and this just bugged me...
Who cares if it's discontinued?
and which in this case it isn't
and he wasn't even asking if it was

BTW, C-1+'s are nice guitars.
I love the whole feel/playabilty of the guitar.

^coil split. Not tap.

and no. some pickups only have 2 wires, not enough to split.

but a lot of after market pups come with 4-wire options.

did you read the post above?

Oh wow, thanks for all the help!
To jj1565: This particular model only has the one pull pot, the more expensive have two which is why I was asking which pickups it splits. From what everyone says I'm going to guess it's both?
huevos: I know what you mean, and when you do a bend on this guitar it practically does it for you.
I played the guitar through that new Peavey amp (31-something) and , guitar and amp, pulled of blues, rock, metal, hell I even tried to play something like country and it sounded great!

oh i dont know which one it splits.
if it's the top tone knob i guess then the neck pickup.
bridge would be bottom knob.

i'm guessing you'd get the bridge split.
