i'm looking at a possible trade with my marshall tsl60 head for a mesa/boogie f30 head.
i have 2 questions:
1- can the f30 cover metal territory. RtL, MoP era metallica. can it do it better than the tsl?can it look at heavier styles without a boost(i havent really liked using boosts in my experience)
2- is it worth just trading up for value? i think it would easier to sell an F-30 as opposed a TSL, since everybody and their brother is selling a JCM2000 in my area. perhaps i could go from the F30 to a higher gain amp if needed.

Yes, it can do what you want, though an F50 would probably be better for metal with it's higher headroom and 6L6's.

F-series amps are good and good values as well.

Try to see if you can find a MKIII. That'd nail those old school thrash sounds very well.

Can be had for around 6-800, so you could possibly get a straight trade for your TSL.

actually i saw a markIII combo pop-up...perhaps i shall enquire more info
looked like it was in bad condition though...my master plan is not to stick it out for a couple yrs with the f30. have it for a couple months, then hopefully step up to a higher rank mesa (mark series, roadking) or soldano, framus, etc..

I don't know how common MKIII's are in Canadia, but a few pop up on Craigslist around here every month

The short heads go for pretty cheap.

i've actually seen a markI, markIII, and markIV around a couple times..its surprising how many killer amps come up in my area (ottawa, im in the surrounding valley) bogner XTC (never sells lol..its like 2950 or something crazy) VHT pitbull (1550 i believe) there used to be a soldano decatone and SLO100 i think, dont remember prices..and theres oodles of 3 channel solo rectifiers but from what i hear they are not too awesome.
i even saw a framus cobra come up once too! didnt have much many at that point.damn.
