PLEASE READ MY LAST POST.

So, I've been financially screwed, to say the least. And, for an amp, I have a ****ing Line 6 Spider III. I know, I know.

So, I decided I want a stack amp. They're big, they sound good, yeah.

http://www.guitarcenter.com/Marshall-MG100HDFX-MG412-Half-Stack-with-Digital-Effects-482805-i1145907.gc

is what I was looking at. Any other ideas? The 550 dollar mark is my limit, really, unless there's something spectacular for 100 more or so.

dont waste your cash on an MG.

you dont need a stack, just get a nice tube combo with that cash.

I know combos look lame but would you rather have something that looks lame but sounds amazing? or something that looks cool that sounds like nails scratching against chalkboards?

what type of music you play? what effects do you have? what guitar do you have?

Ur NOT gonna get a stack for that much (at least a decent one).

I dont like ur thinking logic that all stacks sound good. Anything with MG in the title sux, and I even know that (and i dont know ANYTHING about amps)

Put ur flame shield up if you really wanna buy that piece of crap

Alright, so that idea's out.

I guess the only reason i wanted the stack is because it has like 100W, and that's great. But ill get a combo if they're better, for sure.

I play a lot of punk and metal. Anything from Sum 41 to All that Remains, and some classic stuff.

Currently, i don't have any effects, but i'm getting a line 6 floor POD plus really soon.

Okay, you do NOT need a stack. stacks are loud as hell.
Tube combos are way more than enough just for home playing so you might as well get one.

I could make some recommendations but i'd need to know what you want to play.

EDIT: Randall RG50TC, or a Bugera 6262. Both would be good for metal, however the bugera is about 100 out of your budget.

100W transistor is pretty loud, yeah, but do you need the volume? Are you gigging?

I reckon if you get a POD, the peavey VK will work wonders for you, so long as you make some good patches for the POD.
#8
More watts does NOT equal better just lettin u no that right now.

Get the amp before ur floor POD. Go on guitarcenter.com and look at the amps in ur range. Then check to see if there are tubes. Copy and paste links to ones that you like, and we'll try the best we can to help you out.

The valveking would do you good. A speaker swap really wakes it up if you think it sounds bad. So that would be in your budget. $400 for a 112 valveking and $100 for a decent speaker. and it is extremely loud.

It's not a rant. They seriously blow. I played a gig once, where the support band had two guitarists, both using MG100FX (I think/ MG100s anyway) halfstacks. The tone from both amps was ****e, generic, no definition. Like one blur of sound, nothing tangible or wholly 'good' recognisable.

@thrilla: No dude.

Fender Frontman?
Marshall MG? I think not.

EDIT: Twilight, the Vyper is a modeller, those don't tend to work well with pedal effects, I have no idea about the Raven though, tbh.

..why.
not all modelers are bad
high end line 6's, like the vetta are very good
the peavey vypyr is pretty decent as well.
they could easily rival with any low end tube amp that you could get for 550.

Don't do it. I know half stacks are big and loud. I have one and I love it. Until you're willing to shell out some cash for a good tube head/cab w/speakers get something half way. I think that you would be so much happier spending $600 on a Carvin Bel-Air 2x12, Ampeg Reverb-Rocket, You might find a great deal on ebay for a used Marshall tube 2x12 combo. You will be loud enough.

Why not just get the modeler and keep the money originally for the POD for something else?
It's not like he NEEDS to get it. The more money you save the better, that way he could save for some sort of new guitar or something else he might need.

so, he also wanted to buy an MG, did he not? does that mean that he's going to now? no.

I don't really like any multi effects things, I think they're lackluster. I'm just giving my two cents. I think he'd be fine with some sort of modeler.

Okay, not again.

No, don't get the MG, they aren't good at all. None of them.

For $550, sheesh, you could pick up something quite nice.

Alas, take this thread over to GG&A where a lot of the regulars and gearheads reside... I think they will offer sound advice.

Used Carvin V3 high gain 50 or 100 watts 3 channels smart effects loops and all tube
