I need some help choosing a new amp...
I sold my Valveking 212 and am looking for a stack.
I have about $750 to spend, and I know I cant get a good stack for that, but I'm just
gonna buy the head for now, then in a week or so I'll try and sucker some money from my aunt or something

I'm looking for something that can get the following tones:

Misery Signals
Veil of Maya
The Devil Wears Prada-ish
Recon
It Prevails

I was thinking:

5150/5150 II (I don't know the difference)
Bugera 6260 (worried about the reliability issues)

5150 2x12 combo.

Unless you want to get a head and wait until you have the money for a cab.

hmm bugera 6260 or 333 (not xl)- american voiced peavey copies of the 5150 and xxx respectively. i think they sound in the same league, possibly better from what ive heard on youtube. ive heard a fair amount of ppl have had problems with them breaking down but for 500 for a head that sounds like 1400 it might be worth it. i heard their quality control is better now anyway- the 333 is gonna be my new amp this summer once the cash starts flowin in

If you look hard enough you might be able to find a 6505/6505+ on ebay in your price range.

TDWP actually uses 6505+, if I'm not mistaken.

If you can't find one on ebay just save up the money for a new one. I'm sure you'd be a lot happier saving an extra 150 bucks and waiting for an awesome amp rather than buying one thats subpar for now.

Hey man id go for the 5150/5150 II head. you can get off ebay or craisglist for around 650-700 used if you look around.

i have a 5150 II head sitting at my house that needs a new output transformer and new tube sockets due to the tranformer blowing at a show 1 year ago. but let me tell you this amp is SWEEEET!!! i also have the Bugera 6262-212. its based on the 5150 II. they kind sound similar, but not the same at all. the 5150 II has more low end and more growl to it, the 6262 has more midrange and has a slightly better clean channel to it. some people actually like the Bugera better then the 5150s, but if you grab a 5150 or 5150 II head for a good deal, then do it. those things are amazing. im in the process of haveing mind repaired now. the inncident was my fault, didnt solder a lead wire in good enough..haha

Thanks everyone. Yeah I'm leaning towards the 5150/5150 II.
What's the difference between the two?

the only dif between the 5150 and 5150 II is that the 5150 II has seperate EQs, Pressence and res controls for each channel. the 5150s channels share the same EQ.
the 5150 has 5 preamp tubes. the 5150 II has 6. the 6th preamp tube in the 5150 II is for the clean channel. it was peaveys way of trying to make the cleans on the 5150 better and warm it up a bit and make the crunch option sound more tight. the 5150 has a slight bit more gain then the 5150 II, but you would never know it by listening to them. the 5150 IIs gain is a bit tighter and smoother. but i love them both.
