If you had to make a small case of 10 things that you could carry around anywhere for any occasion, what would you put in it? My list would look something like this.
1.Tuner
2.Metronome
3.Picks
4.Setlists
5.Strings
6.Setting For My Amp And Pedals (I have a bad memory lol)
7.Strap
8.Whammy Bar (if it's not already on my guitar)
9.Extra Small Cables
10.Some Good Warm Up Exercises
11.Band Information (Sorry about the 11)
So I was just wondering what kind of stuff that you guys would put in that had some practical uses.

Every guitarist needs the following for gigs. It's not even an option to show up without any of these, because inevitably, anything that can go wrong, eventually will go wrong.
1) Spare strings - I do not need to explain this
2) Small flashlight - Try futzing around with your guitar/pedals/amp when something goes wrong on a small stage. A must.
3) Spare batteries - You're rocking out and a pedal dies, taking your entire signal chain with you. This will save your life.
4) Spare picks/mic stand pick holder - For the butterfingers among you
5) Duct Tape - The only thing worse than a bad guitarist is a bad guitarist who is tripping over his loose cables.
6) Tuner - Nobody wants to stand around listening to you tune. Ideally, you should have a pedal tuner like the Boss TU-2. Mutes the signal, and gets the job done quietly and efficiently
7) Guitar Polish and rag - Take care of your axe, so it can take care of you. Sweat will wear out strings faster, so make sure to clean your guitar after a gig, and you'll save both the aesthetic quality of your guitar, and save yourself a couple of bucks in strings.
8) Spare cables - Don't cheap out here. Buy quality, it really does last longer and will save you cash in the end
9) Petty cash - Whether it's to buy a beer or a cab ride home, don't ever be found without a dollar to your name. Everybody remembers the douchebag who borrowed cash, and never repaid it.
10) Business cards - You just played a gig and a drunk promoter wants to book you. He isn't going to remember your e-mail address. These are handy and less easy to lose than a scrap of paper.
#19
I like that, I'll remember before every gig that I play. ^^^^^^^^^^

That list is truly awesome. I'll have to add some of those items to my gig bag. Thanks brah
#21
if i had a case that i could carry around i guess it would just be my acoustic case. inside i would have:

acoustic guitar
picks
slide
strings
strap
acoustic guitar pickup

and i guess that would be it. you could play gigs with that as well so as far as bare minimum goes, thats probably it right there. you could probably scratch the strap tooif you want to go even more minimum. and i guess not everyone plays slide, but i do so it would be there for me.

Some things you don't want to hear at a gig:

"Dude, you forgot the ****ing merch box AGAIN?"

"Uh oh guys.... My cable just died"

"Are you sure this electrical outlet is safe?"

"The doors to this club seem to be locked. Does anyone have that promoter's number?"

"Holy ****! The drummer just died of heat exhaustion!"

So make sure to bring
your merch box
2 extra cables per person
power strip(s) if the club seems to have dodgy wiring
contact info for other bands and the promoter
bottled water! in gallon jugs cause it's cheaper. i it sucks if you're trying to get drunk but hydration on stage is important, and this is one area where beer just doesn't cut it.

Besides my guitar and my amp, here is what I would bring.

1. Pedals (including tuner)
2. Picks (and a lot of them)
3. Strings
4. Cables
5. Strap + Straplocks
6. An extra power supply + multi-pedal extender
7. A screwdriver, you never know when you will need it
8. Duct Tape
9. A "band buisness card"
10. A disc with a few demo songs

Unfortunately, I only have 4 of the things on the list in my gig bag. It doesn't hold much though.

im a big slash fan, so i love the first one. as for the second, duct tape is the force. it has a light side and a dark side, and it holds the universe together.
you know, ive owned 8 different guitars over my lifetime, and right now i have 3. i wanna know what the hell happened...i mean the picks and cables are understandable, they disappear into thin air all the time, but guitars?

I was supposed to play this party, and my drummer couldn't go, so we decided to play it without drums. We show up at this party with all our gear in our hands. We walk through the door, and the first thing I hear it "Who the **** is that?". We were at the wrong party, therefor.
