Necrophagist is awesome. Dunno if you'd have thought of it or already got it, but that's my suggestion

I love Necrophagist, but they aren't really melodic death =/

They are melodic, but I wouldn't call them melodic death metal.

Like westernfilet said, "Riders of the Plague" by The Absence is one of the best melodic death albums I've ever heard.

Also, check out "Heartwork" by Carcass, as they're one of the original melodic death metal bands (and one of the most imitated bands period).

Chimaira is not MDM.
Misery Signals is hardcore. Very good hardcore.

cuz ppl hate how power metal they are cuz they think its "gay" or w.e, which is immature and dirogitory
#26
On the contrary, it's highly melodic, and unlike most of what's been suggested here, actually death metal.
#27
I'd say Stigmata is just as death metal as Dismembers album you posted.

I don't know, I've never been a big fan of Dismember, Nihilist are where it's at . In general I just prefer Finnish DM to Swedish DM anyway.

Arch Enemy is basically heavy metal/thrash riffing and structure with death metal vocals and modern production values.
#30
Wow, have you actually listened to Stigmata?

The production reminds me of a better version of a black metal album, and the music is easily highly melodic death metal.

I think we both know the answer to that question.

Archeon anyone?

You mean Made Of Hate They haven't been called Archeon for 2 years. Their second (technically a debut under the new name) album is pretty good.

They sounded NOTHING like black metal in terms of production values - they sound like the lower end of mid-late 1990s Gothenburg (i.e. like they wanted to get the At the Gates or In Flames treatment, but didn't have the budget). And there's no death metal in the sound at all, except for somewhat rough vocals, it's a very obvious heavy metal/thrash hybrid.

By way of comparison:

Arch Enemy "Sinister Mephisto"

vs.

Dismember "Override of the Overture"

There's no comparison. The first one isn't death metal, the second one very obviously is.

The Dismember album has a cleaner production, you know that right? all the instruments are at a better volume, and it doesn't come off as a wall of noise.

Ugh, I thought you cou;d've been a good ANUSite, but as usual it was a bad assumption.

What does that have to do with anything? Dismember is death metal and even early Arch Enemy is clearly not. Production values have nothing to do with that. The MUSIC isn't death metal. It's a hybrid of heavy metal and thrash metal, and it doesn't pretend otherwise.

And it's not like Stigmata sounds like an Ildjarn album, production wise, or even your average big time 80s thrash album. It just slightly predates everything getting the Pro Tools treatment starting around the turn of the millennium.

Good try, but wrong. Death metal emerged initially as a hybrid of speed metal (or "thrash" if you prefer), hardcore and early black metal, but it clearly developed it's own language of riff styles from an early date. Arch Enemy is heavy metal choruses strapped onto speed/thrash verse riffing. Hell, even the vocals on those early albums are clearly thrash derived, with only the tiniest nod to death metal.
