i been thinking of getting this because i use it at college and it is good. but wondering if anyone knows anything cheaper that is near enough the same?

Try to find a used Boss BR-864 on ebay and buy a few compatible 1g cards while they are still available. I have had my boss for about six years and absolutely love it. You can find them on ebay sometimes for about $200 US. The recording on my page are all done with my boss. The recordings of my band at www.myspace.com/opusgrey are all done with that machine too.

I would go for that. At that price, it's hard to beat. The closest thing I can think of to that is M-Audio's Project Mix, which sells for around $1200. If you have the means, and a control surface/interface is what you really want, I'd buy that Tascam.

yeah thats what im looking for so iguess tascam may be my best choice.

i use it at college and have gotten use to it and like using it.

only another £400 to go then :P
