Hey guys and girls, I'm doing a BTEC course in music, and we are currently doing improvisations in jazz. We have each been given a piece to fit our instrument. I play bass so I was given Jaco Pastorius Birdland by Weather Report.

However, I've never improvised before, and ideas what to do??

Jazz improvisation is something that takes an enormous amount of experience and knowledge to do well. Your best is to start listening to and transcribing as much jazz as you can, and pick up a few good textbooks on harmony and jazz theory.
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.
