All my other strings are fine, but the A string is giving me crap. I'm trying to use a tuner to tune it, and the display keeps going from 4E to 2D. How do I get it back to my good old 3A? It just recently did this.

Edit - If it helps, it's been buzzing a lot and sounding really muffled, could that of been a sign of things to go wrong?

this has happened to me before, adjust the string height and it should work. if it doesn't, idk.

sounds like you have alot of fret buzz. You should look at your bridge and see if the saddle is lower and causing the string to be lower to the neck. Or you could take it to a shop and have it fixed for like 30-50 bucks

If you hit the harmonic on the fifth fret on your E string it should be exactly the same note as the harmonic on the seventh fret on your A.
(If you are tuning to standard)

As long as you get one string tuned perfectly you can tune the rest off it.
