Theres a school talent show coming up.
I would like to learn a solo to play.
Just me with no accompaniment.

Can you guys help recommend some cool sounding solos for me?
Any style. Something that would dazzle.
Keep it in the intermediate-advance.

I am willing to learn new techniques like double thumbing.

It would be awesome if there were some tabs for it as well.

Thanks!

Be coolest if it incorporates, fingerstyle, slap and tapping.

Learn some Geddy Lee man. YYZ kicks ass on bass... Guitar Hero kinda ruined that song though

the awakening sounds pretty sweet.
I might just take part of that and put something together.

I can already play YYZ, and it wouldn't sound too good by itself.

Such as maybe Flow My Tears?

Any others that would sound impressive?
I can play his Live in San Francisco solo.

Thanks for fast replies

well, if you can whip out some godly speed powers, how 'bout the Maxwell Murder (Rancid) solo?
Or Jethro Tull's version of Bouree (not too hard, but the bassline sounds sexy)

Nobody cares about a solo bass solo. And even if they did, some wanking in pentatonic minor in a guitar beats it. Bass solo and solo bass are cool, but don't do it for a talent show. Play something nice and melodic that will make them feel the music.

I agree with watchingmefall. Get together with a pianist and play Palewell Park. That ought to impress the audience.
Maruszczyk Jake X Redburst
Woodo B5x Aboyna Burl
Ashdown MAG300H + Ashdown 1x15 (Eminence Delta 15)

Believing Carlos!

Guitar Hero ruined nothing.

TS, try Charlotte's Song by Stu Hamm- there's a guitar pro tab on here, (if you don't have guitar pro, TuxGuitar is a free, legal alternative). It's a bass song as opposed to a bass solo. Very melodic, a lot of chordal work.

try cold cuts by albert collins and the ice breakers that should get some whoo yeas
I pay for music and so should you: http://groups.ultimate-guitar.com/ipayformusic

No its not.

Maybe nor technical but it will be impressive for non-musicians. Also it is a nice alternative to all the stuff the other suggested since i doubt that TS has the skill level to play stuff like Stu's stuff or Marcus Miller.

Kramer Focus 3000
Ibanez ATK300
Rocktron Chameleon
Digitech IPS33B
Ibanez WH10
Korg Pitchblack
Line6 UX2

Maybe Victor Wooten's version of Amazing Grace? A familiar melody like that sexxed up for solo bass would probably be a good candidate for a talent show since most people would already know the melody.
#23
I'm ashamed no one has mentioned Jaco Pastorius. Portrait of Tracy would be a nice one. Or maybe Continuum.
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

Fur Elise or Cello Suite 1 in G major.

Dude if i were you i'd look more at bands like Dragonforce, Dragonland, Dream Theatre and Power Quest, most of their songs are either in E major, A major, C major or D majhor

#25
I can play Portrait of Tracy.

I'm thinking of some Marcus Miller.
Or Stu Hamm.
Not Wooten, it's too hard to work up at my level.

I think the Rancid solo sounds pretty phat.

But I'm playing without any drums/piano/guitar.
And you can play Stu Hamm without accompaniment.
Wooten Amazing Grace maybe..

It's soo hard to choose a good song!

The Awakening is originally by Dexter Redding.

Just pointing that one out.....

But it is awesome, especially if you can get a drummer too.

Blah blah same suggestions as always blah.

Do something creative. Maybe a montage of the best bass licks in metal, like a Souls of Black/Peace Sells/Caught in a Mosh type thing. But honestly, bass solos without ANY backing instruments are kind of meh. even froma bassists perspective....

Ya but if he does people will be like OMG GR8 GUITR MAN!!1!! and over shadow him.
I'd definetly go for something mellow, not something with alot of fast work.

no because the guitar does nothing but play like 3 chords and doesnt play during the bass solo. and u could turn the bass up way more than the guitar

To me or you we would go sweet bass. To the idiots that are out there they will see the guitar and think it's better. Bass doesn't get much respect as it deserves.

i think that the solo and maxwell reputation is enough to make people impressed

Check out Zander Zon and Michael Manring, that's the type of stuff i do in those situations (Ala Wooten a bit but with one s**tload more of harmonics here and there and some tremolo fingering, RAWR NICE!)

have you thought of writing a solo instead of coping someone? just saying
GEAR:

Ibanez GSR205FM

Trace Elliot GP7SM 200watt bass combo

In regards to maxwell murders;
I'm a big rancid fan, but by I'll be damned if this constitutes a good solo.
It's fast, that's it.

Pastorius might be lost on people as well. If you are playing a bunch of high school kids then jazz bass might be over their heads.

Too bad he didn't write it, The Reddings did. Id say try out Solar Groove by John Myung if you have a six string, Or you could make up your own solo.

Check it out! If you do listen, ignore the bass playing on the songs. I recorded them when i was alot worse then i am now.

dragon attack - queen.

track it down on vinyl...the bass is so beautiful on it. they ruined it when they remastered it onto cd.
