Hello, i recently got Emg 81 and did research on pots, since i had to buy others for my other guitars. Now i know most active pickups usually use 25k because of the preamp. Now I'm wondering if I gotten 50k up to 1 meg for a Pot would it ruin the sound or improve? I want have a bright sound for my lead guitar for whenever i record, do you think if i had a higher Pot will give a better sound?

The low impedance of the pickup restricts your choice. They only really work with low value pots. Its why its such an issue when trying to mix active and passive pickups. I remember reading somewhere on EMGs site that a 500k pot acts like a switch versus being variable. You also cant use the same caps as passive pickups for the tone pot.

18volt mod all the way, leave the pots as they are stock (25k)

18 volt mod definately made a difference for me. Maybe not night and day, but definately better. Maybe adjusting the height of the pickup can compensate and get you a bit closer without having to rip everything apart.
