i saw the EMG has a new line of pickups, based off the 85/81 but there EMG 81X and EMG 85X , anyone know what the differents between a EMG 81 and a EMG 81X ?? tone wise.

i LOVE the EMG 81 so if the X model is better i may have to go get it.

Apparently they are more organic sounding than the regular EMGs and sound less sterile. I'd have to try some out

They are EMG"s response to the Duncan Blackouts...**** its about time
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

I'd just stick with the regular emg's but I quit using emg's mostly because good passives sound so much better. But I do still have an EMG in my neck thru RG and it sounds very good I just can't wait to hear it with a d sonic dimarzio or something. Or an x2n. Actives don't have a lot of advantage it doesn't seem like because nowadays they have passive pickups that sound active and are much more clear with much more low end and very organic sounding with better harmonics. Not to mention they are cheaper.
