Chuck sugesting the GB&C for the WIN........Or you could use other build sites.
I've not heard of anyone around here buying books cause everyone here in the GB&C has a special catagory of expertice, Electronics you go to INVADER JIM, You need cheaper parts you go to Phil (Nutinbutrub) or LPAddict, You want all around jokes.......you see Otter......I mean Ryan.........I mean Albino_Rino.
Hearing about a pair of great boobs is like hearing about a really cool bug or lizard as a kid and you just gotta see it.

So you guys don't really deem it necessary to read books before attempting to start building? Internet resources will suffice?

Internet resources will own books. For free.

I disagree having a physical copy of something to refer to while your working, or make notes on etc is very necessary.

Definatly buy the Melvyn Hiscock book and read it.

If you've got no experience with woodwork, DIY type stuff I would seriously reccomend getting a book - the thing about the internet is, it can be good once you have a basic Idea, but if your starting blind then it can be really confusing.

get your arse down the library ! even thurso library has one or two books on guitars and woodwork and stuff.
