I'm wondering, whats some good ideas that will help come up with a good riff? the ones i come up with sound pretty cool but also pretty simple you know? I'm not really intricate yet with my guitar so im thinking more along the lines of..maybe power chords?

Play what you wish your favorite band would write.
Do you feel warm within your cage?

And have you figured out yet -

Your basically asking how to make music, which is what we're all trying to figure out.

im basically asking what ideas help you guys come up with riffs lol. i get that we are all trying to learn to make our own music, just i thought someone might have some pointers that lead them to a nice riff

Man, if it was THAT simple, we'd ALL be famous instead of forum hopping on UG.

Time, patience, and just plain determination are what you need to write a good riff that'll live for ages.

No problem Beast, at least you don't mimic me and act like an idiot ALL THE TIME.

What helps me come up with stuff (when I'm writing in Drop C with my band) is just messing around. I'll get a really fast chug or triplet run, then drop into Drop C power chord runs, and just listen to it on the playback on the UX2. If I like what I hear, then I build on it, and if I don't...well, there's a "Delete" key on the keyboard for a reason, isn't there?
You know, you're probably reading this saying "Hey, I'm bored, maybe this'll be funny?"
It's not. Too bad. No, I am not refunding you those 6 seconds of your life. So :P

The way I write music is, I take a feeling, listen to it, and try to mimick it on whatever instrument I happen to enjoy that day. It sounds rediculous but that's how I do it.
