What is a general output from a mixer (to a computer)?

I was thinking it would be USB 2.0 or something along those lines, but I've heard just a normal 3.5mm jack would be a standard output.

I hope this makes sense

It's either XLR or TRS (1/4 balanced) for the smaller mixers usually. Chances are you don't need one...all you'll need is an interface and mix within the computer. That'll give you more control over your tracks.

Oh right. What would the typical output be on a recording interface then?

USB, Firewire or less commonly PCI.
