So folks, I've decided its high time I buy a digital delay (I already have a Carbon Copy) to reproduce some fantastic U2 music. I'm open to suggestions but as of right now I was looking at the Boss DD7, Boss DD3, #1 Echo, and the Hardwire DL8. I have no use for a looper feature, and I don't particularly understand what tap tempo is and whatever the pedal is, it has to do Edge delays and be good for post rock. Obviously the cheaper the better. Thanks in advance.

I like the post rock neccessity. I'd go for a DD-3 out of those, but also check out the Ibanez DE-7, or even an older Boss DD-5 and DD-6. Tap Temp allows you to set the time of the repeats on the fly by stepping on an attached footswitch, or the pedal itself.

Tap tempo is (in my opinion) vital for a delay pedal, unless you want to spend time programming in the delay time for each individual song. I would never play live with anything without tap tempo.

That being said, I lead worship at my church, and I get a very rock-like delay out of my Boss DD-20, which, although a bit more expensive, was worth every penny.

I've also heard good things about the Line6 DL4.

Uh--- Ibanez DE7, where was that on the list. That's the only delay pedal in my book.

theres a tc electronics pedal that is the dumbed down version of his rack unit.

The DL4 is a beautiful delay!
I've bought, sold, and traded more gear than I care to admit.

Check out the Echo Park by Line 6. It's kinda like the DL4, minus being able to save 3 settings. It's got tap tempo, which is a necessity for any good delay, and it's a really good digital delay with a solid mod feature, and pretty good analog and tape delay simulations.

TC Electronics Nova Delay.

Seriously.

EDIT: Or maybe a Line 6 DL4 if you want something a little cheaper.

You're going to want tap tempo for U2 delays. Tap tempo allows you to set the tempo (or speed) of the repeats by tapping a switch a few times (rhythmically).

I'd go for a Line 6 Echo Park, it has a dotted eighth feature, which is what you'll be using a lot for The Edge's delay riffs.
