I'm in desperate need of a new amp. I have a crate flexwave halfstack and it is pretty damn awful. Would it be cool to buy a Bugera head & cab if I brought it to my local music store to have them look it over?

BeerChurch wrote a great blog that covers all of the issues. Show that to tech or friend who can help before you power it on....If you get one. I thought the issue was they (333s in particular) were biased to hot. Anyway you can find BeerChurch routinely in the Bugera Users Militia thead.

Otherwise-

Budget?
Genres?
Home or gig?
New or used?
Location?

The bugera 333xl is a pretty good amp. Modeled after the Peavey XXX if I'm correct. Its a nice metal/hard rock amp but in may opionion isn't that versitle. Also I would reccommend you get a differant cab if you go with the bugera because bugera cabs suck.

Budget is like 700<
Genre is deathcore/metal/classic rock
Both but need to be able to gig
Preference to new, but used is decent
Location is Western New York

I would actually say that the 333 is infinitely more versatile than a 5150.

I think some of the main problems with the Bugera amps are being worked out as well. For example, the early ones had wiring clipped on rather than soldered, but they are soldering the problem ones now.

Avitar cabs are nice for the money. But the way I see it is why spend money now for a cheap cab that you'll want to replace later on when you can just save up and get a really nice one.

The 333xl is modeled after the JSX. The 333 is modeled after the xxx. They are pretty good sounding but mine broke but they can be fixed. I would not buy the speaker cabinet though. Get atleast a b-52 cab if you need a cheap cab.

don't listen to people that haven't played through one. The Bugera cabs are pretty good. I am happy with the sound I get.

It's about more than sound though. It's about the quality of the speakers and how long they will last cranked. I mean theres just better for not much more money. I'd run a bugera head through a b-52 cab atleast. Atleast those hold together for years.
