I have a cab, so I just need a head. I'm looking for something 1000-1500, and brand doesn't concern me. It'd need to be able to do Metallica, Vai, and CoB, and then clean up and do some lighter stuff, so I guess 2 channels would be nice.

Peavey 5150

Yeah, this head is amazing. We recorded with it, and my producer was showing me all the stuff he could do with it before my band got there. I have seen a lot of metal bands playing it also.
Les Paul, Strat, Tele
Carvin x100b, Epip VJr, Crate V33
Carvin 4x12, 2x12
Randall MTS.
Then there's this band called Slice The Cake...

Bunch of faggots putting random riffs together and calling it "progressive" deathcore.
Stupid name.
Probably picked "for teh lulz"

Mod in UG's Official Gain Whores
i second the MTS suggestion.

MTS, you can find some used pretty cheap sometimes too.

I believe in the "personal opinion" school of thought, I doubt you've heard of it. Now, go waste your time on something that doesn't annoy me

You want to check my profile. Do it.

Randall MTS, Mesa Mark IV...

definitely not a 5150/6505 if you want cleans.
I'm putting my GAS on hold
for a couple months in order to pimp my ride.

Don't judge me.
6505+ has decent cleans and with a reverb pedal it sounds fine. I wouldn't prefer the 6505 on a recording for cleans but I use the cleans on it live and it is fine. If you are mostly playing high gain stuff it's worth it.
The Randall MTS is a good amp but if you have the money the Bogner Uberschall would be perfect for you if you can find it used.
