Is it possible to ruin an effects pedal by connecting an ac adapter to it that's already plugged into an outlet?

I was fiddling with my pedal today and just touched the end of the plug that went from the ac adapter, already plugged into the wall outlet, to the outside of the jack and the pedal turned on for a split second.

Should I place the plug in the pedal before I connect the adapter to the outlet? Or does it not matter?

its best to plug everything in before you switch the power on

the metal enclosure of the pedal is most likely the earth part of the circuit so when you bring the ac jack towards the socket on the pedal it could spark or short out, possibly causing damage
Get off this damn forum and play your damn guitar.
