So I've been given a 1976 Martin D-28 by my Dad for my birthday. It used to be his, and now to my extreme joy it is mine. The thing on my mind now is that the case is a bit worse for wear and does not make a complete seal in some places. Is this an issue? Should I get a new case to preserve both the original case and the guitar itself? This is tempting because a new case seems worth it to protect the guitar. What is your opinion?

Sure, a new TKL case would be best, but make sure you hang on to the original case. It adds some value. Heck, its a hundred bucks to protect a coupla grand. Congrats.

Can we have some guitar porn? You know, pics of it?

This one should be a really good case for such a valuable guitar.

That (Martin 640 Hardshell Moulded case) is the case I was thinking about. The current one is the original (I believe) moulded case but the metal edge is slightly warped and therefore doesn't seal properly. It is a cool case that I will definately keep, but I don't know that it's up to the task of protecting the guitar. And yes, I will try to get some pictures up soon, It sure is fine looking.

I have ordered that case in now. When I get it I will post pictures.

Got the case today. Still looking for the camera but pictures soon hopefully. A wee review for those interested.

Appearance: I prefer the older case as far as looks go. The colour (Blue) is cooler than the standard old black of the new case. However, the green interior is very nice and the black and green look very plush and rich especially with the guitar inside.

Build: It is actually built by TKL for Martin. The case is slightly bulkier looking than the old one, however despite this appearance it is VERY light. It looks as if it has been redesigned since the photos I had seen of it. It has five latches (one on the back) like the old Martin one. The compartment inside is slightly smaller than the old one, but large enough for a three pack of strings, string winder, capo and pick case. It seems well built and robust. I am happy with it and it holds the guitar well and securely. I have faith in this case. Would buy again.

So I've got photos now. I created a Bebo page for the guitar, But suffering technical difficulties. Try and sort it out soon... User name is MartinG149 if you can find it... I cant! I hate bebo but it seemed the easiest way to upload 38 photos.

I've got the Martin 345 case. It came with my guitar, but the vinyl is starting to rip a bit.
