I dont know if this is the right place for questions like these, but I couldnt find another forum. My problem is this: When I download a torrent and start it with bittorrent (or limewire), it starts downloading for a few seconds and then it immediately goes back to '0 kb/s'. This is very annoying. Don't tell me I shouldnt download because I buy a lot of music as well.

So, you guys know what it could mean? It hasnt always been like this. Its not the internet connection because at school I have the same problem. I have a Macbook 2.4ghz intel

Perhaps a setting with a firewall? I am a computer noob and terms such as tcp/ip and proxies don't mean nothing to me.

Thanks in advance

Maybe it's the low amount of seeds, and high leechers? Check that you get one with the highest seed to peer ratio.

Er, I mean, torrenting is bad..

There's a big torrent thread I think. Check the Stickied Thread about threads that shouldn't be made again. There's some links in there and I think torrent is one.
sometimes I see us in a cymbal splash or in the sound of a car crash

Doesn't torrent rely on the uploader being online at the time? I'm not sure coz I've only ever torrented one thing, but that's what I think I've heard people say...

If you get a virus by looking at porn, is it considered a sexually-transmitted disease?

torrenting works through something called 'peer-to-peer'. Basically, the original uploader 'seeds' the torrent until a decent number of people have a copy, then they seed it to other peers (leechers), who then continue the cycle.

First, check through all your firewall settings and make sure that the port you are using is not throttled by your internet provider and that it is not blocked by your firewall.

Second, it seems dumb, but do you use dial-up?

Third, switch to uTorrent,.

Fourth and finally, wtf are you doing dlding at school? Not only is it still illegal and the school can get you for using their bandwidth for illegal downloading.

1. Do not use your school's connection to torrent, especially if you're talking about college/university.
2. Check to see if the router that you're connected to is port-forwarding enabled.
3. Bit rates always fluctuate.

...modes and scales are still useless.

Okay first of all, I'm in a dutch school. Its not illegal (yet??), and they have a killer connection. Second, I downloaded 'Transmission' and now I have 200kb/s downloads, so thank you very much!
