i don't know any low wattage valve amps, sorry

i was wondering if anyone could give me some models?

I have a JVM 410C which kicks ass and i love it, but i need a small one (like less than 50 watts) for my second home, i was thinking the JCM combos, does anyone know any even lower wattage ones?

I generally like Peavey, Marshall, Fender,

starting to sort of like laney.

everywhere i seem to look, they are selling 100 watt amps, cant find any low wattage valve ones...

anyone help please?

You do realize a 50 watt amp isn't quieter than a 100 watt amp, right?

ok, budget is < 700 pounds, and i play a wide variety of music, which is why i'm willing to try any sound.

that might sound suicidal but its true, i like trying new sounds out and i appreciate most valve sounds

like i said its for my second home anyway, and i say a low wattage one, for the pure fact i think it'll be cheaper

some of the most expensive amps are 50 watts- Not 100% sure but one of the boutiques like ENGL or splawn or something have primarily 50 watters...

i think 700 pounds is like 1100 dollars right? i don't know what you can get in europe- if you were in america i would recommend a used JSX combo... 120 watts with half power switch.

maybe a Bogner alchemist combo? its a 40w/20w combo and its pretty awesome... with a boost in front of it it can get pretty much any style.

Mesa Express series, might push the budget but mine is a tone machine. I have a 5:50 and it just sings, it gets decent grind when i push it and its louder than one might think. Kinda spendy but awesome nonetheless.

Sorry to break it to ya, but the F/DC series mesas blow it away, at half the price.

I don't know about blows it away, but F/DC-series were both sweet ass amps. I really like my Express cause its very versitile. Ive a/b-ed my amp with a whole host of mesas and mid to high end tubes and I'll take mine just about everytime. Takes a little knob turning but the thing sounds great.

Either way, that's way over the TS budget. Mesas prices are way jacked up in the UK.

For sure. What about like an ac15/30 or a tiny terror (the new 30 watt version), or a rebel 20. I have no idea what egnater stuff costs in the uk both those rebels are fn sweet.

You guys actually liked that thing? I thought it was a ginormous rip off.

Yeah I thought it sounded really nice. Tons of tones in that little package. Being able to blend 6v6 and EL84s to get a bunch of different tones was a great idea both in concept and execution. It gets dirty pretty well and its got a bit of punch. Seems perfect for what TS is looking for. Plus its tiny and you can adjust the power output. Egnater makes good stuff. He said he wanted versatile and low/mid power, price range is about right. But since you don't seem to like anyone else's recommendations what do you think he should go for?

Anything but that. The tube mix is a gimmick, the difference is negligible, you can get the same effect from a few turns on the EQ. The wattage control, while I agree it works it certainly doesn't make the amp very quiet, pretty much rendering it useless. I dunno, for 700 bucks it just seems a rip off. I still don't understand how anyone can call it versatile, it does a decent crunch, not much else.

For that range something like a blues jr would do well, definitely a good amp.

The jcm800 wouldn't be bad, but it would be pretty similar to his JVM. That could be good or bad depending on how he looks at it.

Maybe check out orange, though in my experience they really need to opened up otherwise they're quite muddy and fizzy

The bogner alchemist is a nice amp, though quite likely out of the TS range in the UK

Vox AC30 is a great, I'm always in a state of gas for one.

If you can find an F30/F50/DC3/DC5 then that'd be pretty nice, but those are probably hard to find in the UK

I'm not very familiar with the brand but laneys are supposed to be a good value on that side of the pond, certainly worth a look.

Never really got into the high gain peaveys, they aren't my cup of tea. The classic 30 is a nice amp though.

I'm sure there's more, but I can't be bothered.

I'd go for a Fender or a Vox. You'll have to try them out for yourself though.

Agreed on the Orange though if you have a good eq you can fix that. +1 on the AC30 for sure those things are just beautiful. Not a Marshall guy so I can't really comment. I liked the JSX peavey's but they arent really my thing lots of knobs to turn though and they are pretty loud. A good 5150 is just brutal. My Guitar teacher uses one and that thing can crush skulls, unfortunately thats about all it does. We've had a Blues Junior and a Deluxe come through the shop and I can go either way on those, price is right though.

The BJr does the american overdrive blues sound very well, that's what I use it for mainly along with a classic rock crunch. I modded the circuit on mine so its fair bit better than the stock thing. I really wanna throw a g12h-30 in it, but I'm broke like a joke.

for that price range, the egnater would be awesome.

I don't think you can really appreciate this amp after playing with it at GC for 10 minutes. When I first picked it up, I second-guessed whether I had made the right decision. After a week with it, I'm convinced it's the right choice.

True, you're not going to get "2 am in an apartment" quietness out of it (not with any tube breakup anyway), but what you do get is real power tube saturation at a reasonable volume.

Think of the wattage knob as more of a "headroom" knob. Turn it to 1, turn the gain way up, and slowly raise the volume and hear that tube breakup without wearing earplugs - sweet. The tube mix dial has more of an impact at this level, although I will agree it's still pretty subtle. Crank the wattage up to 20, turn the gain down, and you get cleans up to very nice volume levels.

I think it's a nice amp, and at a nice price. Name another tube head for $500-550 (GC always has some kind of sale going on) that gets this good a range of sounds, and is still reasonably useful for home practice, band practice, and maybe even small gigs?
