Seriously, probably the most frustrating program that exists. And useless. Freezip is about a million times better, because its free. But I can't seem to get it to be the default program to unzip regular winzip files. ugh

Anybody else hate failzip?

winrar is baloney. A brother doesn't pay for basic computer functions like file compression.

7Zip is without a doubt, the best.

Although I've never had an actual problem with Winzip, but 7Zip IS better.

Pfff, fools... It's all about tar and gunzip, fuck zip and rar.

winrar is pretty much free

after you've finished the free trial, it asks you everytime you go on to buy the product. if you just wait about 5 seconds, it will just go on normally.

7-Zip. No problems with it, and works with most compressions. The only thing I've ever needed WinRAR for is .ace files, which I cannot be bothered with anymore.

It's also very light weight, and completely free.

This. Seriously. If most people saw a file that ended in filename.jpg.tar they'd shit a brick.

Nope. TAR is something I associate more with Linux and Source codes though...
TAR itself is not compressed though, just an archive file. Files like TGZ (or tar.gz) and tb2/tbz2 (tar.bz2) and similar are compressed.
But none of these beats 7 zip. After 7 zip comes bzip2 and RAR.

EDIT:
And after doing some research I found out that tar.gz was one of the least effective compression utilities in a comparison test... It did beat the most when it came to TNG compression though (pictures) and C++ compression, which is probably why it's used that much in Linux, I guess.

You also have TugZip and PeaZip.
But still, 7-Zip wins.

I use Winrar, so I can't comment.

Yup.

I once sent a college project to my professor in a .rar file and he e-mailed me back asking what format the zip was in because he was unable to unzip it...

He's a friggin' computing professor and he can't unzip .rar files...
