Odd group to put together, I know

Anyway wondering about some noises in their songs, if there done on guitar, how to do them!

1) Smashing Pumpkins
Song: Perfect
How is James Iha making those squeaky noises with his guitar.
Look at a live version, the one on letterman was great.

2) Bloc Party/Arcade Fire
Song: Rebellion (Lies) and Banquet
In the very beginning of both of these songs when the drum is playing
there is a ambient noise in the background, can this be done on guitar.

Thanks A lot if you know anything, and feel free to guess, the Arcade Fire/Bloc Party might just be studio stuff but I know the SP is played on guitar

thanks

bloc party uses a lot of delay and reverb. like seriously russell has one of the largest pedal boards i have ever seen.

russell uses 5 dd-6s in series, in addition to 2 dd-5s with one set to reverse, a tr-2 tremolo pedal and a rv-5 revverb pedal.
