I'd have to say Buckethead, not sure if he counts as metal though.
Why should I come down?

I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

Among the churchyard’s mouldering stones I recognise a name – my own.
I have come home to Arkham.

Jeff Loomis is pretty good. I love the tapping solo in Final Product. Chris Broderick is pretty fukkin good also.

anyone else read this as "best rapper"?

Yeah, immediately followed by reading it as "best trapper" I r can't read.

That video that was posted, god, the guy's face is just "shhhhhhhhhiiiiiiii- fffffffffffuuuuuuu- shhhhhhhhhhhiiii- ffffffffffffffffuuuuu- ffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuu- *sigh*"

I tend to think Michael Romeo. Broderick and Loomis are both pretty crazy though.

Trey Azagthoth of Morbid Angel by FARRRR. He already has the fastest record. And his tapping solos are crazy. He blows every tapper out of the water.

Fast =/= Best.

Yeah, but he has skill and speed, or at least when it comes to tapping. Check out a Morbid Angel song, and then tell me he's not the best tapper. People here said musicians like Buckethead who rarely taps, and isn't even that great.
#27
I have listened to Morbid Angel, and, yeah, it was impressive, but Mike Sullivan, imo, is the best.

Screw talent, the tapping near the end of Warriors of Death by Sepultura and the tapping in Witching Hour (if you don't know who it's by, kill yourself) are the best tapping I've ever heard.

At first I read this thread as "The Best Rapper in Metal"

Anyway, that solo part in Witching Hour is EFFING GODLY.

Eddie Van Halen, hez liek teh god of tappingz lolololololll.

But seriously, either Micheal Romeo or Chris Broderick. Anyone who uses a chapman stick/warr guitar pretty much needs to be awesome at tapping so they should get a mention too.
#32
Dunno if he counts but he makes tons of metal songs...Buckethead?

I didnt have anything planned out, and I didn't know **** about improvising, so it was like "OH SHI- SOLO TIME" so I kerry-kinged it.

I also love that tremolo rhythm part behind it, really enhances the solo. God, Welcome to Hell is too amazing.

WASP kicks ass

The best tapper..Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, and that guy from Thin Lizzy definately need a mention since they were some of the first people to make crazy solos from tapping (Thin Lizzy isn't known for it, but they were one of the first people to do it, especially in the song Cold Sweat)

In my opinion, it's a tie between Chris Broderick and Rocky George. 8 finger tapping FTW
