im new to this whole midi thing and i need to do some recording.
unfortunately, i have no idea whether i have midi ports or not
my sound card is a creative soundblaster audigy 4

Build a midi port. That way you can be sure.

does your computer have a circular port (roughly the size of a quater) that has tiny slits in it that go around the top portion of the port?

So you have a midi drum controller/drumkit then? Well, if you don't have those ports, your gonna need a converter (interface) with ports OR get a usb to midi cable for the kit.
