i just got an orange open back 2x12 cab, it is rated at 16ohms
my plan was to use it in conjunction with my fender deville 4x10.
now... the amplifier itself has an output of 8ohms.

can i safely run the amp into the cab?

should i unplug the internal speakers if i do run it with the orange cab?

any help or feedback is much appreciated

you see thats what im unsure about, ive looked all over the internet and it seems there are two camps...
some say it wont hurt the amp as long as the output in ohms does not excede the cabs ohms

and some say it will hurt your amp if you do not match

As long as the Cabs ohms are higher than the amp your fine! This is whats known as a safe mismatch. But Make sure you unplug the internal speakers also!
If you start a reply with: I have never played one but I have heard good things about it! Your opinion is invalid.

thanks for the input! ^ tried running the amp through the cab with the speakers unplugged and all i git was this barely audible distortion... i figured that wasnt a good thing so i promptly shut the amp off and plugged its speakers back in. i tried it though the cab with the internal speakers plugged in and everything sounded fine. no added noise no audible drop in volume or headroom.

you have to be really careful here.

you need to know the output with the speaker. it'll be different than without.

i saw this has additional info, you maybe didnt see.

i looked at the manual for the amp.. it says that its output is 8 ohms and that if an external cab is used that it has to be used in conjunction with the amps speakers and that the output jacks are wired in parallel... and to use an 8 ohm cab. thanks everybody, keep the information/input coming!have any of you have any bad experiences with mismatching amp/cab ohms
