I was wondering for future reference, Is it better to have a 7-string on hand or a 6-string? Or both?

probably depends on what you want to play
for me i find it unnecessary

Well personally I like both, its all a matter of opinion. However there is the fact that 7>6, so its really up to you.

Try both, buy the one you prefer.

You can't say one's better than the other.

6 strings will cover everything except the lowest of metal tunings, and even then its possible to set the guitar up to accomodate them. 6 string for sure, in my opinion.

I personally like to have both on hand because they both offer different characteristics and options.I often find myself using my 6 strings for distorted tones and I use my 7 for the classical bluesy shred stuff I've been getting into lately, which is kinda odd.I personally think that every guitarist should have at least one extended range guitar just for the extra musical options it brings to the table.
