I doubt they will pass it. So many people are simply against marijuana.

Edit: by the way, I think there is already a thread on this.

Marijana is the largest cash crop in the US. If it was legalized it would shut down countless street gangs. But what would we do with the currently incarcerated people over marijuana related offenses?

Let anybody who is in for possession of any amount out immediately. Small scale (caught with under 4oz or so) dealers that only have a record for marijuana should be let go.

Keep any sentence for marijuana that involved mass profiteering from growing or smuggling. (Unless the growing itself was small scale and had no traces to gangs or crime rings.)

Just my take on it.

You can support freedoms that you don't exercise. I'm not gay and I don't own a gun but I am strongly for freedoms concerning both issues. It's called not being a narrow minded moron who only votes for personal reasons. (This includes stoners voting so they themselves wouldn't get in trouble as their sole reason along with people who just want to put stoners down and all that.)

Assuming they are only in prison on Marijuana related charges that are not cleared by the bill, they are free to go. Possibly parole limitations will be placed.

The same thing they did with all the incarcerated bootleggers when prohibition ended.

Yes, but the plant wasn't used for smoking in the 1790s. It was predominantly used for the hemp.
I can honestly say I have really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like.

So even though the law is stupid and doesn't work, we should still continue through with it and punish people for it? If you think its stupid, it makes no sense then that you believe in its enforcement over peoples right to get groovy

Freeing them would put our tax dollars towards much more needed things, I see no reason to keep them imprisoned personally. Waste of money and unethical if all they did was have some herb

Maybe you should try this new think called postconventional reasoning sometime eh?

If I got caught for possession I would expect to be punished by the law, but that doesn't mean that I think I should be subject to all of that. I sure as hell know the risks, and I'm in support of changing them. When a state of anomie arises, it isn't the peoples fault when they break current laws from my point of view, it's part of the process of change.

I doubt it will change much. Correct me if I'm wrong but the DEA is a federal organization?

Yup, but since Obama has become pres. there have been less feds coming in and busting up medical mari stores, and the DEA apparently didn't comment directly after the bill was proposed, some suggested that the feds maybe reconsidering the laws.

And its all fcked up when fed and state laws getting intertwined.

The attorney general recently ended the DEA raids on California's medical marijuana. If this bill was passed (which it probably won't, but it's awesome how much attention is being brought to this issue from it.), the same would probably happen.

It doesn't matter anyways, a new commander in chief of the DEA is going to be appointed next month. Apparently they're looking for somebody that isn't an authoritarian lunatic this time.

Hell no they aren't. The DEA consists of ****ing freaks of nature who have no respect for human rights of ANY kind (not just drugs) and would **** their pants in joy for anything that further promotes a police state.

I'm not some angsty teenager (Well, maybe I am ), I actually support the majority of our federal government.

TONS of adults smoke pot. Most of the kids who come on here talking about how marijuana is evil and destroys society seem oblivious to the fact that many people that they look up to and many successful people they know smoke a lot of weed. Marijuana isn't making them do better at what they do obviously, but it's no life destroyer for the vast majority of people. (Albeit I know people with certain personality types who struggle with not smoking, but these are the kind of people who were failures in the first place and have just as little control over anything else in their life. Don't compare them to me or most smokers.)
