E9 - D - B - D

The notes make it A major, but since there's no A chord (i rarely even hit the "A" note), im thinking its something else. Any idea?
Not very good at this... But i don't think there has to be any a chord to make it in the key of a major...
you dont, but it sounds wierd without the root note, if i understand correctly. Dunno if the sound im hearing is a lack of a root note, or a mode
really? It definitly doesnt sound that way to me, especially after playing the B and landing on D again. E sounds resolved imo.
