I was planning on getting a fretless acoustic bass as my next bass and I stumbled across this:
http://www.ibanez.com/AcousticGuitars/model-EWB20SMFENT
I've heard it played and like how it sounds. The price is well managable.
But then after looking into it further, I noticed Ibanez has another EW series fretless acoustic for about the same price range:

Now, my question is, which one should I get?
The obvious difference I notice is the types of wood used. Can someone please explain to me what the differences in types of wood will make what kind of differences?
Only play what you hear. If you don’t hear anything, don’t play anything.

they are essentially the same bass the only difference is that one has a Spalted Maple Body and the other has a Quilted Mahogany Body

i would go with the EWB20QHFENT

but thats just me

That gives you rank of -10 out of 10. You fail. Go play the flute.

well the maple one is going to sound brighter
while the mahogany one is going to have a thicker sound.

Thanks guys! It sounds like I'm getting the Mahogany body one. I prefer the thicker sound over the brighter sound.

One more quick question though, regarding the fingerboards: I guess they both have Rosewood fretboards, but I've heard that roundwounds will eat away at rosewood fingerboards over time. Is this true, and should I just go with just flatwounds or is there any mod I can make to allow for either round or flatwounds to be used?

my guess is that roundwounds will eat away of your fretboard overtime but the flatwounds will also do the same

whether or not one does it faster then the other i have no idea sory
