Basswood is a fine wood for metal. It's sort of in between alder and mahogany tone wise. I don't like the softness and it's tendency to get damaged very much though, so be aware of that.

I know nothing about that specific guitar, but in general basswood is a great wood for metal. It's got a balanced tone just a little deeper than alder, with increased mid-tones that really help give definition and help it cut through other instruments. Lots of guitarists in shred-happy 80's rock bands used guitars made of basswood, and it works good for heavier styles too.
