I'm looking at replacing the tuning heads on my 72' telecaster deluxe.

I was originally looking at the Steinberger Gearless tuners ... they look different but have a 40:1 gear ratio ... (which I'm not exactly sure how they get that if it is "gearless") - http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Steinberger_Gearless_Tuners.html

But after talking with a friend (bad idea, I know) he claims that Schallers would be better for a Fender. - http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tuners/Guitar,_solid_peghead_tuners/Schaller_Locking_Guitar_Machines.html

What do you guys think? Would the Steinberger tuners install into the fender headstock without a problem, or is my friend right?

Thanks in advance!!

schallers would be easy, but i don't see how the Steinberger Gearless tuners would go on badly

Well, if you look at the picture for the Steinberger ones, they show a Tele headstock... So I'm guessing they'd go in fine.
Demolition hands.... Got 'em!

They need 10mm holes which Tele has So you can put them mostly on any guitar since MOST of the tuners use 10mm holes (Which include ALL fender guitars and ALOT of others)
