So it seems I may be moving to China. I've lived in Germany for most of my life, I'm used to it here, but the chances of a move to Beijing seem to be high. The reason I am starting a thread here is to find out whether anyone knows anything about life in china. I have heard it is different, and not only are we not gonna drive, we're gonna have a driver or something.
So i would like to ask the Pit, for those who know, how is life in china compared to that in europe or the states? thank you in advance

I lived in China from 2001-2004. I don't really know what to tell you... you kinda have to be there to know what it is like. Although I can tell you that the first two years there were the best years my life. But you get really tired of the lack of hot chicks...

There's pandas. Bamboo. Lots of people. Nerds.

That just about encompasses my understanding of life in China.
We're only strays.

If you're in Hong Kong it'll be okay. But to be honest. As long as you aren't active politically you'll be able to live just the same as in most of Europe (except France).
But yeah internet is censored etc.

Apparently, having a Western man for a boyfriend is a status symbol in Chinese cities.

You gonna get used.

Well the poor in China are extremely poor. The middle class is quiet okay if I'm informed correctly. But the gap between rich and poor is just immense.
The bigger cities are quiet rich but the rural areas are like Africa more or less. As far as I know and what I saw when I was in China. I was mainly in Hong Kong though.

Remotely. If you live a normal life without taking part of political activities etc I reckon you should be able to live a rather average life like in any city in the world.

Don't know how it works with television and internet etc though.

Do you like Starcraft? If you can, move to Japan. I hear they have Pokemon there.

If you like Starcraft Korea is the country.

I lived in Beijing until I was about 7-8, its nowhere as bad as people make it out to be. Its just crowded as ****, think of New York City except twice as many people on the streets. You can do the usual stuff you normally do in the West....go to movies, play sports, go swimming, go to bars (theres no age limit for drinking), you can't do drugs though cause the government is EXTREMELY strict on drugs not that you'll be able to find any drugs. And yes, there's actual Christian churches there, thousands and thousands are converting to Christianity over there.

Most people usually take the bus/subway or taxi, driving in Beijing is a bitch, people on the road are psychos. As far as TV and internet goes....its the same as here in the States, they broadcast NBA games almost every day as well as other sports from all over the world, hell they even show UFC in China. Internet, yes you can surf porn and not go to jail lol. Teens are crazy about video games, and there are cyber cafes everywhere.

One good thing about China is that you can get illegal **** anywhere (DVDs, cds, games, toys, equipment, etc) and food is everywhere and cheap. You'll get used to it after a while.

And yea its polluted, the first week you're there, I guarantee you'll get canker sores in your mouth or get sick cause your immune system's not used to it. Anyway, its nowhere as bad as people make it out to be cause most people talking **** have never even been there and just get their ideas from the media or something. And remember, this is from my experiences from more than 12 years ago, the country has developed so much more now, you go to Beijing and most parts are as developped as say new York City.

Got any more questions, just ask.
