Hi all,

For years I subscribed to Rolling Stone magazine. It became apparent to me that the magazine had lost touch with what music is. The issue where they listed John Fruciante and John Mayer as "the new guitar gods" was the last straw and I canceled my membership.

I read an couple reviews recently of new albums and it still seems that they have no clue as to what music is. I'm not saying they need to agree with me or the music I prefer. I can appreciate a bands musicianship/skills/appeal even if I don't personally like their music.

So my question to you all is... Is it just me or has Rolling Stone become a complete joke?

Thanks for you input,

Mully

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. If they aren't music. Then what the **** is music? They have to cover what music is today.

Here is my good argument. That the magazine knows what good music is...

And here's the bad side...

EDIT: Holy ****, look at the artists listed along side the ****ing Jonas Brothers. Mark Knopfler, the Who, Foo Fighters....And of course Jonas Brothers have to be the main topic.....
I love Foxy Shazam more than you.

The issue where they listed Thomas Erak as "the new guitar god"

If this had been the case, then I would've kept my subscription. But I've never had a subscription to RS and have always hated that magazine.

National Geographic is much better.

To be fair, they included Derek Trucks with Mayedr and Frusciante. Trucks certainly deserves it although the other two are questionable...

Rolling Stone magazine is a giant pile of feces.

Look at the Top 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list for proof.

Rolling Stone was never a good magazine in the first place, it always featured more of a slant towards political articles and pop culture.

If you wanted a real magazine, you would have to go buy Creem. Which has unfortunately been defunct since 1988.
2003 Schecter C-1+ w/ Seymour Duncan AHB-1 Blackouts
2006 Epiphone 66' Re-Issue SG

On top of that, notice how every single Beatles song in fucking history is on that list.

Way to kiss the ass of the most overrated band in the world, Rolling Stone.

No kidding. AC/DC shouldn't even be on the list.

And lol at Rolling Stone giving U2's new album 5 stars. U2 hasn't been relevant in almost 20 years.

They once mentioned UG in a side column. I was like, . I didn't know we sucked that bad.

The RS seems to be more interested in being relevant to celebrities and the more extraneous of pop culture. I still think it's an okay magazine, but it's no longer the best.

I think that's because UG is the biggest guitar tablature database since OLGA got assrammed by the music industry and the American judicial system.

Well I hate Led Zeppelin and their plagiarised black music anyways.

There's usually at least one interesting article in each magazine, but yea, it pretty much sucks. There are good articles about any topic all over the internet, so it's become obsolete.
1. Open My Computer.
2. Open C:
3. Click on WINDOWS.
4. Open the folder "Media."
5. Click on the file "onestop."
6. Listen.

Rolling Stone will do what sells. That involves following trends, i.e. the band of the moment, the political developments of the moment (with shoddy, shoddy journalism for the most part), and the celebrity side of a person. Rolling Stone isn't really out of touch with the people who matter to them: Their readers. They definitely are out of touch with any sort of journalistic standard, but as long as they're selling magazines, they won't be trying harder to reach for that of all things.

PS, if you're looking for pretty spot on music-reviews, try allmusicguide.com.

They're usually the best to use to look for new music, IMO. they do strike out a few times, but they're much more consistently on target than other publications like Rolling Stone.

The top 100 guitarists just pisses me off everytime I see it
RS's opinions are so far up their own asses,
Im suprised they can hear the indie **** they praise so much
and god forbid they get off John lennons, kurt Cobains or bob Dylans cocks for 30 seconds
