So the school's battle of the bands is coming up, and im thinking about throwing together a little band to play in it for a one time thing. I already have a couple people who would probably do it with me.

Songs for a drummer, bassist, and a vocalist/singer. That are fun, easy(ish), and enjoyable to a variety of people. I need 25 minutes of material.

I want to do a Sonic Youth and a song by The Pixies, im not sure what ones yet. Keep in mind im a completely aweful singer, but am decent at playing and "singing" at the same time.

So far I have...

No way in hell I could sing Alice In Chains.

I always thought Nirvana was uncorverable, but thanks anyways.

Mudhoney is a good idea, I bet people would recognise "Touch Me, Im Sick". Even if they don't know the name.

Call yourself Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem.

That's all the advice I got - people've already suggested the Pixie's songs I would've.

Blue Monday -Orgy ???
I'm just throwing it out there as it's something my band recently decided to do. It's kind of weird.

This, or "Those Damned Blue Collar Tweekers" by the same band.
Or how about being completely weird and doing 'Valium 10' by Hawkwind?

Then there's 'Surfin' Bird' by The Trashmen, they don't really come much weirder than that.

''SURFIN' BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRDDDDDDDDD blearghleargharrrrgh........

...... apapapapapapapapapapapapapapapa-oom-mow-mow-papa-oom-mow-mow''

What a classic.

Actually, I do have some song advice, apart from calling yourself Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem. If you are looking for weird songs, songs off Piper At The Gates of Dawn (Pink Floyd's first album, for those of you who live under rocks) or either of Syd Barret's two solo albums (Madcap Laughs and Barret) are most definitely weird. They're more 'whimsical' weird than the likes of the Pixies, but some good stuff.

I like 'Caribou' for the Pixies song. 'Bob' by NOFX is a fun song, especally faking trumpet sounds vocally. 'The Good Life' by Weezer. 'What's my age', blink-182

Man, now I want to play the battle!

Do you have a guitarist?
And besides, if you're horrible at singing, why do you sing? Go instrumental, or get another singer, you could function as a backup singer, for example.

Because I love to sing. Just because your bad doesn't mean you can't.

I hate Ozzy. Let me repeat myself, I hate metal. I hate Ozzy.

Please leave, you have been voted off the thread.

How does this look.

"Alex Chilton" The Replacements
"Debaser" The Pixies
"Original" Punkish, fast, pretty Replacements like.
"Original" Punkish, fast, kinda Sonic Youth like.

If you can hold a low and atmospheric voice (not too hard), you HAVE to take something off Nick Cave's MurderBallads album ^^ Theres some really atmospheric and weird songs there.. The Curse of Millhaven is sure to make one orgasm everytime. Fecking great. Or Stagger Lee.
FUCK YOU ALL!

Okay.... if Dayglo Abortions were perhaps a bit TOO weird, how about something by Cake? Short Skirt and Long Jacket, perhaps?

Mr Grieves has some really nice simply parts in it, It's also quite short.

I'd go with Where Is My Mind though. The drum parts are fantastic and the bass parts meld in exactly as needed also.

the only way that nirvana would be uncoverable is because no cover band wants to make themselves look that bad.

Good call on Alex Chilton, that's my favorite song by The Replacements.

Here are my suggestions:
"Too Many Puppies" - Primus
This is one of the easier Primus songs to play. No crazy bass tapping, the guitar part isn't hard and you can just make up a solo. Plus it's pretty weird. Video link. *NOTE* the middle part of that video is a different song. You'll know what i mean, it starts around 2:30 or something. it comes back in at 4:30

"Woo Hoo" - The 5, 6, 7, 8's
You'll recognize this from Kill Bill and the Vonage phone commercials. Video

"In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" - Iron Butterfly
Early 60's space rock prog stuff. The original version is like 17 minutes, you can cut it down to whatever you need. Any stuff from this genre is weird to most mainstream ears. video
